چکیده

Greater emphasis has been attached to aquatic ecosystems in recent decades, as these are associated with indicators determinant of sustainability indices. The environmental impacts potential risk human health the semi-arid region state Rio Grande do Norte have frequently observed. This study aimed at evaluating cyanobacteria density, and indices that indicate Piancó-Piranhas-Açu Watershed quality. It also targeted identify factors impact most blooming organisms. sampling design consisted 12 collections different seasonal periods from 2009 2016, carried out by Água Azul Program on 6 points along basin. Environmental variables were used analyze Water Quality Index (WQI), Trophic State (TSI), Cyanobacteria Density (CD). mean WQI indicated ‘Regular’ water status for PPA3 PPA4, while PPA1, PPA2, PPA5 PPA6 resulted ‘Good’. As TSI, levels average degree eutrophication (mesotrophy) three points, high (eutrophy) two low (oligotrophy) one point. In this sense, activities - especially diffuse polluting sources around spring seemed worsen scenarios. density potentially toxic was high, exceeding CONAMA Resolution 357/2005 recommends a maximum value 50,000 cells/mL, Ministry Health Ordinance 2914/2011 threshold 20,000 cells/mL. Regarding general correlation between CD seasonality we found significant influence (p < 0.05), greater proliferation organisms directly related drought. We concluded although dams’ waters suitable multiple uses, TSI had limitations, considering excessive primary productions presence and, thus, occurrence cyanotoxins ensuing pollutant loads. led us conclude adoption education practices toward would help preservation local social development. enable establishment effective priority public policies mitigation pollution.

Cyanobacterial blooms in stratified and destratified eutrophic reservoirs in semi-arid region of Brazil.

This study investigated the dynamics of cyanobacteria in two deep, eutrophic reservoirs in a semi-arid region of Brazil during periods of stratification and destratification. Four collections were carried out at each reservoir at two depths at three-month intervals. The following abiotic variables were analyzed: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, water transparency, total phosp...

Animal-based medicines used in ethnoveterinary practices in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil.

This work documents the zootherapeutic practices in Ethnoveterinary medicine (EVM) of Pedra Lavrada (6°45'S, 36°28'W), Northeastern Brazil. We interviewed 23 people (22 men and 1 woman), who provided information on animal species used as remedies, body parts used to prepare the remedies, and illnesses for which the remedies were prescribed. We calculated the use-value to determine the most impo...

Traditional uses of medicinal animals in the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil

The present work presents an inventory of the traditional medicinal uses of animals in the municipality of Bom Sucesso in Paraíba State (PB) in the semiarid northeastern region of Brazil. Information was obtained through the use of semi-structured interviews with 50 people who use zootherapeutic products. A total of 25 animal species used for medicinal purposes were identified (18 vertebrates a...

Animal-Based Remedies as Complementary Medicines in the Semi-Arid Region of Northeastern Brazil

Animals (and their derived products) are essential ingredients in the preparation of many traditional remedies. Despite its prevalence in traditional medical practices worldwide, research on medicinal animals has often been neglected in comparison to medicinal plant research. This work documents the medicinal animals used by a rural community in the semi-arid region, inserted in Caatinga Biome,...
